During the ceremony, participating monks, nuns and followers reviewed the history and contributions of Zen Master Vạn Hạnh to nation and Vietnam Buddhism.

Zen Master Vạn Hạnh was born in 938 in Dich Bang village (now Tu Son town, Bac Ninh province) and passed away in 1018. During the early Le Dynasty, Zen Master Vạn Hanh helped King Lê Đại Hành defeat the Chinese invasion. When Lý Công Uẩn became king, Master Van Hanh played as a great assistant and was named National Master (Quoc su). Currently, the relic of Zen Master Vạn Hạnh was within Tieu Son pagoda in Tu Son town.

Earlier, the VBS executive council and executive committee also organized on June 27 a seminar themed “Zen Master Vạn Hạnh with the new era of independence and sovereignty” with the participation of many monks, nuns and scholars from the Vietnam National University and research institutes.
