Use of small bank notes in festivals checked

To implement civilized lifestyles in belief – related and religious establishments, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued on Jan 12 an official document to regulate the use of small banknotes in cultural belief-related and religious festivals.

In the document, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism asked subordinate departments and the Executive Board of cultural belief-related and religious establishments in coordination with relevant organizations and individuals to implement the law on the use of small banknotes. Exchanges of bank notes for profit at historical sites, pagodas and festivals need to be checked and eliminated.

In 2014, the Ministry of Culture and the State Bank of Vietnam also sent a document to the localities in order to strengthen management the use of small banknotes in localities, especially at belief-related places and festivals. After one year of implementation, the practice of banknotes exchange for profit and throwing of money at cultural festivals has not been radically reduced.
