Located in Quang Trach district of Quang Binh province, Trung Hai parish has about 535 households with over 2,000 Catholics.
As the Catholic parish is located by a river and East Sea, its followers have attracted its importance to the marine economy for their livelihood.
Currently, Trung Hai parish has a fleet consisting of 20 offshore fishing boats, with a capacity from 150 to 300 CV. The fleet was split into four groups to share and help each other in the fishing ground. In recent years, the fleet concentrated on catching squids and created high income for fishermen.
Apart from fishing offshore, the parish developed a fleet of 75 inshore fishing boats with a capacity of between 20 and 40CV and the fleet was also split into 12 groups.
In addition, the parish has 35 people worked in the fishing industry in Korea.
The marine economy has not only helped local Catholics to reduce poverty and get rich but also contributed to building a new-style rural countryside and community development.
Each family in the parish has contributed one million VND to build three concrete roads from Highway 1A to the parish.
The parish has also established a charity board which raised over 40 million VND per year for supports to the elderly, the disabled and orphans on occasion of the Tet festival and holidays.
