Tien Giang provincial VBS presents scholarship to poor pupils

On occasion of Vesak 2015- B.E.2559, Tien Giang provincial Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Committee organized a ceremony on May 28 to present the scholarship “Thích Huệ Đăng” to poor pupils for the first time at Vinh Trang pagoda in My Tho city.

Attending the ceremony were Member of the Central VBS Executive Council cum Vice Chairman of the provincial VBS Executive Committee Most Venerable Thích Hoằng Đức and local Buddhist dignitaries.

Local officials attending the ceremony included Vice Chairwoman of Tien Giang provincial People’s Committee Trần Kim Mai, Chairman of provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Huỳnh Văn Phương, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Study Encouragement Association (VSEA) Phan Thanh Phong and representatives of the provincial VSEA and Agent Orange Association.

During the ceremony, the provincial VBS Executive Committee awarded 110 scholarships to poor and excellent pupils, and presented seven charity houses and 600 gift boxes to Agent Orange victims and disabled people. The total value of the charity program was about VND700 million, which was raised from Buddhists and benefactors.

On this occasion, the Vietnam Study Encouragement Association presented a commemorative medal to Most Venerable Thích Huệ Minh, Chairman of the provincial VBS Executive Committee and a certificate of merit to the provincial VBS Executive Committee for their practical contributions in promoting Children’s education and talent./.
