Tien Giang province: Go Cong town VBS Executive Board holds Buddhist congress

On April 1, Go Cong town Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Board in Tien Giang province held the general congress for 2016-2021 tenure at Hue Quang pagoda.

Attending the ceremony were Most Venerable Chairman of the provincial VBS Executive Committee Thích Huệ Minh, representatives from 11 the district-level VBS Executive Boards, and 300 monks, nuns and followers in the town.

Chairwoman of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs Bùi Thị Mai and Vice Chairman of Go Cong town People’s Committee  Trần Phạm Vĩnh An also joint the event.

As reported at the congress, in addition to good results recorded in Buddhist affairs, Buddhist dignitaries and followers in the town have proactively participated in local movements, especially in social and charitable activities with total value of nearly 14 billion VND.

The congress elected 13 members to the new-term Executive Board of the town VBS with Venerable Thích Giác Nguyên as the Board Chairman. The congress also nominated a delegation consisting of 18 monks, nuns and followers to attend the province-level VBS congress.

During the event, five collectives and seven individuals were awarded certificates of merit by local authorities for their practical contributions in social and charitable activities in the past five years.

On this occasion, the new VBS Executive Board presented 60 million VND to the “Gratitude fund” of Go Cong town for building two charitable houses.
