Tien Giang province: Ceremony held for inauguration and consecration of Vinh Kim Catholic church

A ceremony was held on November 28 for inauguration and consecration of the church of Vinh Kim Catholic Community in Tien Giang province’s Chau Thanh district.
The ceremony was presided over by Bishop of My Tho diocese Peter Nguyễn Văn Khảm and attended by about 500 clergymen, clergywomen and Catholic followers from parishes inside and outside the province.
Local guests at the event included Vice Chairman of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs Trần Văn Khuê and representatives of local authorities.
Vinh Kim Catholic Community was established in 1945 accommodating Catholic followers in Vinh Kim and Binh Trung communes of Tien Giang province’s Chau Thanh district. The original church was built by temporary materials in 1975 and its church has seriously degraded after 40 years of existence. The construction of the new church was started in early 2015 on an area of 225m2.
According to Chairman of Vinh Kim Catholic Community’s Pastoral Council Nguyễn Thành Danh, the Catholic community currently has 72 Catholic families with nearly 230 followers.
