The Executive Board of Tien Giang’s Vietnam Buddhist Sangha holds a conference to review Buddhist affairs in the first six months and concludes the Summer Retreat course 2014

On August 7th, 2014, at the Executive Board Office- Vĩnh Tràng pagoda (My An village, My Tho city, Tien Gianh province), Most Venerable Thích Huệ Minh, Member of the Executive Council of Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS), Chairman of Tien Giang’s VBS Executive Board chaired a conference to review Buddhist affairs in the first six months of 2014, approve targets and tasks for the last six months and conclude the summer retreat course 2014 (B.E 2558).

Attending the conference were the dignitaries of provincial Discernment Council, representatives from the Buddhist Executive Boards of districts and about 500 monks, nuns and followers.

On behalf of local authorities, Ms. Bùi Thị Mai, Vice Chairman of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs; Mr. Huỳnh Văn Phương - Chairman of the Tien Giang’s Party of Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and representatives from local authorities joint the conference.

According to a report, in the first six months of 2014, the Buddhist dignitaries and followers well implemented following Buddhist activities:

- Prayer for peace in the East Sea and against China’s illegal placement of drilling platform HD 981 in the Vietnam’ exclusive economic zone and continental shelf.

- Successful organization of Vesak 2014 (B.E 2558) as a contribution to the success of the UN Vesak celebrations hosted by VBS at Bái Đính pagoda, Ninh Binh province; the Summer Retreat course 2014 (B.E 2558) held at 4 places with 6 extracurricular activities for monks and nuns to learn about the Constitution 2013 and the laws on belief and religion; organization of a Minh Dan conference on Buddhist canons for 671 Buddhist monks, nuns and followers.

- Abbot appointment for 39 dignitaries; ordainment of 52 new monks and nuns; certification of 11 monks and nuns.

- In humanitarian activities, the Executive Board of provincial VBS actively contributed to local movements for debt of gratitude, building the national unity bloc, caring Vietnam heroic mothers, supporting medical care for poor patients, and providing scholarships poor pupils and students with difficulties... with a total of nearly 15 billion VND.

On the occasion of conference to review religious affairs in the first six months of 2014, the Executive Board of the provincial VBS also held a closing summer retreat course ceremony (B.E 2558) and awarded the certificate of merit to monks and nuns with ​​outstanding achievements in Buddhist activities in the first six months of 2014./.
