Thanksgiving ceremony for 50th year anniversary of construction of Tay Linh church

On June 19, 2014, Tay Linh parish’s followers gathered to welcome Archbishop Francis Xavier Lê Văn Hồng, the new prelate of diocese, Vice Chairman of Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Vietnam, Archbishop of Hue archdiocese and priests to celebrate 50th year anniversary of construction of Tay Linh church

At the beginning of ceremony, Archbishop of Hue archdiocese said that though the formation and development of the parish had been through many ups and downs of history, the Lord has taken care of the parish. He called the congregation to follow predecessors in order to build the parish more beautiful and gracious.

Mr. Joseph Võ Xuân Dũng, Chairman of Tay Linh  parish council  thanked local authorities for creating favorable conditions for the parish to celebrate this solemn anniversary.

Tay Linh parish is a new name of former Cau Kho parish inside the inner of Hue city.

Under the reign of King Thành Thái (1889 - 1907), a bamboo chapel was built at Cau Kho. In 1950, priest Paul Trần Bá Hạnh was appointed as Superintendent of the parish, and then a new church with bricks and corrugated iron was built.

In 1961, priest Joseph Trần Thắng Trung was appointed as Superintendent of the parish and a spacious new church was completed in 1964 and renamed as Tay Linh parish

The parish used to be populous with over 4,000 followers. Through many ups and downs, currently the parish has 1,150 followers. However, the parish remains a strong community and its followers keep strengthening unity and building advanced cultural life styles.
