The opening ceremony of a teaching course on folk songs and “ancestral worshipping ritual” of Lo Lo ethnic people was held on August 3 in Ha Giang province’s Dong Van district.

The event was organized by the department of culture, sports and tourism in the province in collaboration with local authorities and attended by shamans, artists and people from Lo Lo Chai village in Lung Cu commune and neighboring villages.

The course is taking place until August 12.

The ancestral  worship ceremony of the Lo Lo people in Lung Cu commune, Dong Van district, Ha Giang province is an intangible cultural heritage belonging to the category of social and religious beliefs and named the list of the national intangible cultural heritage list in 2012 by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Although all families of Lo Lo people have an ancestral worshipping altar, the ancestral worshipping ceremony of the Lô Lô people is always held annually on July 14th (lunar calendar) in the headman of the lineage’s house. The headman of the lineage often prepares the offerings and other families make their voluntary contributions.  The offerings includes one cow, one pig, one chicken, sticky rice, traditional wine, votive papers, oil lamp, a pair of bronze drum.
