Stone lion statues of Ly Dynasty at Ba Tam temple recognized as national treasure

A ceremony to mark the 959th coronation of Nguyên Phi Ỷ Lan and announce the recognition of the pair of stone lion statues Ly Dynasty and a gilded wooden altar of Mac Dynasty as national treasures was held on March 22 at Ba Tam temple in Gia Lam district of Hanoi.

People’s Committee in Duong Xa commune receives recognition of national treasure at Ba Tam temple  

Ba Tam temple built in 1115 is a worshipping place dedicated to Nguyên Phi Ỷ Lan (Lê Thị Yến) who was born in Bac Ninh province’s Thuan Thanh district, now belonging to Duong Xa commune of Hanoi city’s Gia Lam district. She was the concubine of King Lý Thánh Tông and the mother of King Lý Nhân Tông - the longest reigned ruler in the history of Vietnam.

With a long history and unique architecture, Ba Tam pagoda – Nguyen Phi Y Lan temple complex has been recognized as a national historical - cultural relic in 1996, and the pair of stone lion statues Ly Dynasty and a gilded wooden altar of Mac Dynasty were classified as national treasures in 2020.

During the event, delegates also cut ribbons to inaugurate the technical infrastructure project completed at the total investment of nearly 38 billion VND.

Gia Lam district would continue restoring the worshipping temple within the relic with the total estimated cost of about 12 billion VND, contributing to develop the relic into a spiritual tourism destination in the locality./.
