Social contributions of Catholics in Binh Dinh

The Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics in Binh Dinh successfully held the 6th general meeting on social contributions of local Catholics on June 7.

As reported at the meeting, Catholic parishes, congregations and households have proactively participated in programs and movements launched by state authorities for socio-economic development in the locality for the past five years. So far, over 80% of Catholic concentrated residential areas achieved the cultural residential area title and more than 90% of Catholic households received the ‘cultural family’ award.

In response to the campaign “Day for the poor” launched by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, the diocese Caritas and parishes and Catholic in the province contributed to two billion VND and 30 tons of rice for supporting lonely elderly, orphans and people with disabilities, as well as helped building 25 houses for the disadvantaged.

The Quy Nhon daughters of St Paul congregation in the province has operated two medicine cabinets within the congregation and organized free health checks for 500 poor people, ten free sewing class for 150 women of ethnic groups.

Implementing the coordination program for environmental protection and climate change adaptation for 2015-2020, the Catholic solidarity committee in the province has developed a pilot model promoting environmental protection in the residential area of Go Thi parish and planned to expand this model to other Catholic parishes and communities in the province.
