Seminar on Romanized Vietnamese script

The committee on culture under the Catholic Bishops Conference of Vietnam (CBCV) held on October 25-26 a seminar on Romanized Vietnam script at the pastor service centre in Ho Chi Minh city.  

The event themed “400 years of Romanized Vietnam Script” saw the participation of Bishop President of the CBCV Joseph Nguyễn Chí Linh. Bishop Head of the committee on culture Joseph Đặng Đức Ngân and Director of Institute of Linguistics Đặng Ngọc Lê.

The seminar looked at the process of formation and development of Romanized Vietnam script since it appeared in 15th century, basing on the letters and grammar of the Latin language.

The seminar drew presentation papers on the influence of Catholic literature on the propagation of faith in Vietnam in 17th century and 18th century, work of Mannuductio Ad Linguam Tunkinensem (Vietnamese grammar from 17th century to 18th century) and religious literature from 1620 to the present.
