Seminar on religious diversity of Vietnam Southwestern

A seminar on the religious diversity in Vietnam’s Southwestern Region has been held in An Giang province on August 10 by the Institute for Religious Studies under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences in collaboration with the Committee for Religious Affairs in An Giang province

The seminar co-chaired by Assoc. Prof. Chu Văn Tuấn - Director of the religious research institute, and Chairman of the provincial religious committee Lê Nguyên Châu saw the participation of 50 researchers and state officials from the institute, the provincial religion committee of the Southwester region and universities in Ho Chi Minh City.

The event drew over 20 essays and presentations focusing the current diversity of religious practices and its characteristics, practical issues arising from this religious diversity and proposals for ensuring social cohesion and sustainable development. 

Earlier on August 8, the institute for religious studies and the religious committee in An Giang held a roundtable discussion on religious changes in An Giang since 1990 for further analyzing positive impacts of the state administration on religion in the past decades as well as identifying remaining issues that need to be addressed and improved.
