A seminar on Mandarin Trần Hữu Thành was held in Nam Dinh province’s Y Yen district on July 12.
The event was co-hosted by the Center for Conservation of Religious Culture’s Heritage and Trần Family in provinces of Nam Dinh and Ha Nam.
Attending at the event were representatives from the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Association, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, the University of Social Sciences & Humanities, and large numbers of researchers, local oficials and descendants of the Trần family.
Mandarin Trần Hữu Thành was born in 1558 in Nam Dinh province’s Y Yen district. He was one of the top four candidates who passed the national exam organized by Mạc Mậu Hợp court in 1586. Then he was a mandarin under the Mạc and Lê Trung Hưng dynasties. At the end of his life, he returned to live in Nghia Hung beach area in Nam Dinh province.

During his service in the court, he was chosen by the King to oversee law enforcement and preserve the country's discipline.
Upon his retirement, he joined locals to set up nine communes in Nam Dinh province’s Nghia Hung district today and advised people to build embankments, plant sedge, weave mats, etc. The locals then set up temple in Nghi Thai commune of the district to honor his merit.
The seminar affirmed that virtues of Mandarin Trần Hữu Thành are great values in the modern life contributing to promote education and moral practice amongst people.
