Seminar on Buddhism and Mother Goddess Worship held in Hanoi

A seminar themed “Buddhism and Mother Goddess Worship in Vietnam” was held in Hanoi on December 16 by the Vietnam Buddhist Institute under the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) in collaboration with the Institute for Religious Studies under the Vietnam Academy for Social Sciences.

The seminar drew large numbers of state officials, religious scholars, Buddhist dignitaries and practitioners of Mother Goddess worship.

Addressing the seminar, Senior Venerable Thích Thanh Quyết, Vice President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council cum Head of the Buddhist institute affirmed that the worship of Mother Goddesses was part of the worshipping system in Vietnam, as well as an indigenous belief as recognized by the UNESCO.

He also stated that the Mother Goddess worship has also embraced other cultural values as worshipping elements of Buddhism and Taoism has been seen in many of its worshipping temples.

Apart from presentations and comments from religious scholars, Buddhist dignitaries and practitioners of the Mother Goddess worship, the seminar participants had an opportunity to enjoy outstanding performances of the practice of the Mother Goddess worship by artists and mediums.
