The International Council for the Day of Vesak (ICDV) and Vietnam Buddhist Sangha held on January 25 the second meeting in the northern province of Ninh Binh for speeding up preparations.
The event saw the participation of Most Venerable Chairman of ICDV Dr. Phra Brahmapundit, Vice Presidents of the VBS’s Central Executive Council Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu and Most Venerable Thích Thiện Pháp, members of the ICDV, and Buddhist dignitaries of the VBS.
Distinguished guests at the event included Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Vũ Chiến Thắng and representatives from concerning ministries and agencies.

The UN Day of Vesak 2019 will take place on May 12-14, 2019 in Tam Chuc pagoda located in the northern province of Ha Nam with the main theme “Buddhist Approach to Global Leadership and Shared Responsibility for Sustainable Society”.
Right after the first meeting with the ICDV on October 2018, the VBS has embarked on preparatory works including the establishment of an organizing committee for the UN Day of Vesak 2019, the completion of the draft master plan for the ICDV organization and the construction on facilities in Tam Chuc pagoda in Ha Nam province. etc.

Speaking at the event, Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng shared that the Prime Minister has paid due attention to preparation work and provided regular supervision of the joint-working group set up for supporting and guiding the VBS in hosting UN Day of Vesak 2019.
The GCRA Chairman also informed that the join-working group had several exchange meetings with the VBS, concerning agencies and Ha Nam provincial government on the draft master plan for the event.
He also commented on preparation works of the ICDV and the VBS including main contents of the draft agenda for the UN Day of Vesak 2019, the invitation of international guests, etc.

On the same day, Chairman of the GCRA Vũ Chiến Thắng led a delegation to visit Most Venerable Thích Phổ Tuệ, Patriarch of the VBS in Vien Minh pagoda, located in Hanoi’s Phu Xuyen District, ahead of the lunar New Year Festival (Tet). At the reception, while extending Lunar New Year greetings to the Buddhist leader, Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng expressed hope that the Patriarch would continue guiding and encouraging Buddhists to proactively respond to social movements and programs launched by state authorities for country development.
