The organizing board of Huong pagoda festival on May 9 asked the abbot of Huong pagoda to regulate the organization of the festival after offensive scenes occurred during Mong Son Thi Thuc ritual (rites performed for the distribution of food to the wandering souls).
Mong Son Thi Thuc ritual is an annual custom held at Thien Tru pagoda, concluding the Huong pagoda festival. During the event held on May 7, the ceremony created chaotic and offensive scenes when all participants tried to scramble to win food offerings and most of joining people were supposedly locals.
Also on May 9, the People's Committee of My Duc district sent a report to Hanoi city department of culture and sports and committee for religious affairs on the issue.
