Sai Gon Diocese: A ceremony held for the new Archbishop officially taking office

On April 24th, at Ho Chi Minh Notre Dame Cathedral, a ceremony was held for new Archbishop (Bishop Bui Van Doc). Attending the ceremony were bishops of 25 dioceses, priests, clergymen and Catholics inside and outside the Archdiocese.

Earlier, on September 28th 2013, Pope Francis has appointed Bishop Paul Bui Van Doc, the bishop of My Tho diocese as acting Coadjutor Archbishop of the Ho Chi Minh Archdiocese with the successor’s power cum bishop in charge of My Tho’s diocese. On March 22nd 2014, Pope Francis has received the retirement letter from Cardinal Archbishop- Jean Baptiste Pham Minh Man, Ho Chi Minh Archdiocese. Therefore, according to Catholic laws, Vice Archbishop Paul Bui Van Doc automatically became Ho Chi Minh’ Archdiocese.
