Religious organizations in Vietnam issues joint commitment on environmental protection and climate change adaptation

The National conference “Promoting role of religions in environmental protection and climate change response” was closed on December 3 in spirit of harmony.
Concluding the event, Venerable Thích Phước Điền, General Secretary of the conference presented a joint statement of commitment by the religions in Vietnam on protecting environment and responding to climate change.
In the conference, forty religious organizations belonging to the fourteen religions in Vietnam express deep concern about the impact of pollution, environmental degradation and climate change on human life and all sentient beings.
They also call on efforts to minimize the causes of environmental pollution and climate change caused by humans, contributing to the sustainable development and protection for each community, country and the world.
The religious organizations committed to conduct practical actions in religious communities, including: raising awareness and responsibility of religious communities on environmental protection and adaptation to climate change; actively participating in effective programs for protecting the environment and responding to climate change; closely coordinating with the VFF Central Committee, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and concerning departments and agencies to implement and supervise the implementation of environmental protection, climate change adaptation; and encouraging social charitable activities, preserving environment by religious dignitaries, deacons and followers, as well as timely supporting and sharing with the poor, people with difficulty in the community who facing with natural disasters, storms or floods,…
The joint statement of commitment also called on leaders, organizations, individuals, people, and religious communities in Vietnam and overseas to recognize the dangers of pollution, environmental degradation and climate change that humanity and Vietnam are facing with as well as share responsibilities and coordinate actions for the highest human purpose: protection of human life and all sentient beings.
