Religious organizations in Dong Thap engage in local environmental protection

The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Dong Thap province’s Hong Ngu district held a meeting to preliminary review the program for promoting role of religions’ role in environmental protection and climate change response for 2015-2020 period.

Attending the event included representatives from local authorities and religious organizations in the district.

The meeting focused on discussion of results of the implementation of the coordination program over the past two years. So far, after signing the cooperation program on environment protection and climate change response, religious organizations in the district have actively participated the environment protection by developing models involved religious participations, such as “Catholics join environment protection” by Thuong Phuc church and “religious followers register to take part in environmental protection and climate change response” with the participation of 320 Hoa Hao Buddhist households in Phu Thuan B commune. In addition, followers of religions in the district also proactively joint in models and movements launched by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, such as “clean street”, “the volunteer Saturday day”, “green Sunday”, “light - green - clean – security road”, etc.

On this occasion, local authorities presented certificates of merit to religious organizations for their outstanding contributions to environment protection in the locality.
