Tam Nong district in Dong Thap province has currently eight religions of Buddhism, Protestantism, Caodaism, Hoa Hao Buddhism, Buu Son Ky Huong faith, the Four Debts of Gratitude faith, Pure-land Buddhism with over 40,000 followers (accounting for 40% the district population) and 25 religious worshipping places.
For the past years, religious organizations in collaboration with local authorities have set up three religious models and 11 groups for environmental protection and climate change response with the participation of over 1,600 members. The launched models and groups included the club for environment protection of Hoa Hao Buddhists in Phu Duc commune, the self-management model for environment protection of Thanh Tam Catholic parish in Tan Cong Sinh commune and the club for environment protection of Caodai parish in Phu Hiep commune.
These religious models and groups have encouraged local followers to actively engage in practical activities for environment protection in the locality such as using of hygiene water, planting trees and flowers and collecting rubbishes, packs and bottles of plant protection products, contributing to keep residential areas clean and beautiful.
The established models and groups for environment protection and climate change adaption have enhanced awareness of environment protection amongst religious communities.
