On August 17, the department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in collaboration with Quang Ngai city People’s Committee and Tinh Khe commune organized an incense-offering ceremony at the Truong Dinh temple to commemorate the 154th death anniversary of national hero Truong Dinh (August 20, 1864 – August 20, 2018).
Truong Dinh was born in 1820 in Tinh Khe commune, Son Tinh district, Quang Ngai province. When he was 24 years old, he followed his father to the south and gathered poor farmers to establish a plantation in Gia Thuan commune, Go Cong Dong district, Tien Giang province.
He had led several movements struggling against the French colonialists’ invasion for six years, won many glorious feats of arms and was honored as ‘Binh Tay Dai nguyen soai’ (the Binh Tay Marshal).
In a battle on August 20 of 1864, Truong Dinh was seriously wounded and he killed himself with his sword to avoid being captured by the enemy, at the age of 44.
