Provincial-level VBS congress held in Lang Son, Quang Ngai and Ninh Thuan

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s chapter in Lang Son province successfully convened on April 24 its 4th congress (2022-2027 tenure).

The event taking place at the convention of Lang Son provincial People’s Committee saw the presence of Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Standing Vice President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Most Venerable Thích Bảo Nghiêm and Most Venerable Thích Gia Quang, Vice Presidents of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Senior Venerable Thích Đức Thiện, Vice President cum General Secretary of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Most Venerable Thích Quảng Tùng, Chairman of the VBS’s Executive Committee in Lang Son province, and 200 outstanding monks, nuns and lay Buddhists in the province.

Guests at the event included Deputy Director of the Buddhist Affairs Department under the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Đào Huy Cường; and Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Dương Xuân Huyên.

The one-day event reviewed Buddhist affairs of the VBS chapter in the 2017-2022 tenure and mapped out key plans for the 2022-2027 term, as well as elected Senior Venerable Thích Quảng Truyền, Vice Chairman of the VBS’s executive committee in the province in the 2017-2022 tenure as Head of the  executive committee for the 2022-2027 term.

As reported at the event, during the last five years, the VBS chapter in Lang Son has spent nearly 13 billion VND on social charities including nearly 500 million VND donated to the Covid-19 prevention work.

During the event, the VBS executive committee in the province was presented with the Second-class Labor Medal, and Senior Venerable Thích Quảng Truyền was awarded with the Great National Solidarity Order by the State President.

On the same day, the VBS chapter in Quang Ngai province held its 6th congress at Phap Hoa pagoda located in Quang Ngai City.

The event saw the presence of Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn, President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Most Venerable Thích Thiện Pháp, Standing Vice President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; and Most Venerable Thích Hạnh Lạc, Chairman of the VBS’s Executive Committee in the province.

The one-day elected a new 41-member executive committee with Most Venerable Thích Thông Hội elected as Head of the VBS executive committee in the province for the 2022-2027 term.

New VBS executive committee in Quang Ngai makes its debut at the event

At the event, three group and 6 individuals of the VBS chapter in Quang Ngai were presented with certificates of merit by the Central VBS for their practical contributions to Buddhist affairs, and 5 Buddhist groups and 9 individuals were honored with certificates of recommendation by the provincial People’s Committee.

As reported, Quang Ngai currently has 282 Buddhist worshipping places with 376 monks and nuns. During the last five years, the VBS chapter in the province has opended four intermediate Buddhist courses with 186 graduated monks and nuns; and donated 114 billion VND to support poor locals and the Covid-19 prevention work in the locality.

Earlier, on April 21, the VBS chapter in Ninh Thuan province held its 7th congress at Sung An pagoda located in Phu Ha commune of Phan Rang City.

The congress saw the presence of Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn, President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Most Venerable Thích Thiện Pháp, Standing Vice President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; representatives of VBS chapters in Lam Dong, Khanh Hoa and Binh Thuan province, and over 200 outstanding monks, nuns and lay Buddhists in Ninh Thuan province.

The one-day event elected a new 67-member executive committee with Most Venerable Thích Hạnh Thể re-elected as Head of the VBS executive committee in the province for 2022-2027 term.

On the occasion, the new VBS executive committee in the province presented a charity house valued at 50 million VND to the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee.
