The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) chapter in Tay Ninh province held on March 23 its seventh congress (2022-2027 tenure).
The event taking place at Linh Quang pagoda located in Tay Ninh City’s Ward 3 saw the presence of Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn, President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Most Venerable Thích Thiện Pháp, Standing Vice President of the VBS’s executive council; Most Venerable Thích Huệ Thông, Deputy General Secretary of the VBS’s executive council cum Chief of the VBS’s Central Office in Ho Chi Minh City; Most Venerable Thích Huệ Trí, Chairman of the VBS’s Central Committee for Legal Affairs, and about 200 monks and nuns in the province.
Guests at the event included Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party’s Committee Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Dương Minh Thắng, Chairman of the provincial Committee for Religious and Ethnic Affairs Võ Thành Công, and representatives from other religious organizations.
Monks, nuns and participants at the event
As reported at the event, Tay Ninh currently has 142 Buddhist worshipping places including five provincial-level relic sites, with 456 monks and nuns, three Buddhist Family groups, and 35 Buddhist Ashrams.
In the 2017-2022 period, the VBS executive committee in the province has appointed 25 abbots, established seven new Buddhist worshipping places, changed the seal pattern for nine district-level executive boards and 136 out of 142 Buddhist worshipping places in the province, as well as organized the 3rd and 4th Buddhist ordination conferences with the participation of 630 novice-monks.
The Buddhist Intermediate School in the province has 102 graduated monks and nuns of the 1st course (2018-2021), and is currently training 150 monks and nuns in the 2nd course.
In addition, the social charities with the total value of 165 billion VND have been launched by the VBS chapter in the 2017-2022 period.
New VBS executive committee in Tay Ninh makes its debut at the event
The one-day congress elected a new 51-member executive committee of the VBS chapter in the province with Most Venerable Thích Niệm Thới re-elected as Head of the provincial VBS executive committee.
On the occasion, the VBS executive committee in the province was presented with a certificate of merit by the Central VBS; the VBS executive committee and 14 Buddhist individuals were presented with certificates of recommendation by the provincial People’s Committee; and 12 Buddhist individuals were presented with the certificates of recommendation by the VBS chapter in Tay Ninh.
