Promoting social engagement of Protestant women in Sa Thay district

05/28/2018

Sa Thay district, a bordering district of the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum, is home to large numbers of religious followers in various ethnic communities, including followers of Protestantism.

For attracting Protestant women into the social-political life, the women association in the district has established many models for getting the Protestant women involved in women movements.

Established in 2011 in O Village of Ya Xier Commune, the model “Protestant women join women association activities” drew the participation of 15 women Protestants. The model has implemented monthly activities following the working plan of the women association in the commune and the district.

Activities of the working model include the dissemination of updated information on state policies and laws, exchanges of skills for raising and educating the children and improving the family economy.

In addition to regular activities, Protestant women have also had opportunities to participate in seminars on gender equality and training workshops for using new agricultural technologies and successful models of the farming industry.

So far, the model program received a certificate of merit from the Kon Tum provincial People’s Committee in 2013 and has attracted 30 Protestant women in O Village with 18 of them assigned with organizational and managing roles.

This model has also been replicated and expanded in three communes of Sa Thay district and draw the participation of 62 Protestant women in activities organized by local women associations.
