Pope Francis on April 25 appointed Priest Joseph Nguyễn Đức Cường of Da Lat Diocese, Deputy Rector of Minh Hoa seminary, as the new Bishop of Thanh Hoa in Vietnam’s North Central Coast region.
Priest Joseph Nguyễn Đức Cường was born on October 14, 1953, in Quang Truong commune of Thanh Hoa province’s Quang Xuong district.
He attended the Simon Hoa Minor Seminary of Da Lat and later studied at the Major Seminary there. He continued his studied at the Pontifical College of St. Pius X also in Da Lat. The prelate completed his priestly training at the St Joseph Major Seminary in Ho Chi Minh City, before his ordination on 27 June 1992.
Before becoming Deputy Rector of Minh Hoa seminary, he used to serve as assistant parish priest of Tan Thanh of and deputy chair of the commission for the catechism of Da Lat Diocese.
