Phu Tho province acts to preserve intangible cultural heritage

In 2011 and 2012, UNESCO recognized Phu Tho province’s “xoan singing” and Hung King worship ritual as the intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

This is a great honor, not only of people in Phu Tho but also the Vietnamese community at home and abroad. So, Phu Tho province efforts to preserve and promote the value of these cultural heritages.

Mr. Phạm Bá Khiêm, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that Phu Tho province is implementing key tasks on conservation and promotion of values of the intangible cultural heritages in each period.

From 2015 to 2020, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Phu Tho province will build and implement project for survey of the original Xoan singing clubs and Xoan singing in other localities, the status of conservation and promotion of heritage values of Xoan singing, as well as schemes for the protection of intangible cultural heritages according to UNESCO convention together with developemnt targets on ceremony, culture and tourism in the province.

According to statistics from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Phu Tho province is home to over 1,370 relic sites and 260 festivals, many of which have become unique spiritual symbols, such as the Hung Kings festival, Au Co temple festival, Dao Xa elephant festival…. Besides, Phu Tho also have many intangible heritages, such as Moi and Chuong dance, Xoan, Gheo and Trong quan singing ….
