In many remote communes, people especially the youth always set examples in the movements for building the armed forces and joining the army for defending the country. Phu Xuan is amongst typical localities.

Phu Xuan is a commune in the center of the Bac Vam Nao project of Phu Tan district in An Giang province. More than 95% of the commune’s population is followers of Hoa Hao Buddhism. People’ life in Phu Xuan locality, largely relying on agricultural livelihoods, has been improved considerably for recent years in socio-economic and cultural aspects. 

According to the assessment by the commune’s Party Committee and People’s Council, Phu Xuan authorities have attached its importance to the strengthening of local security and defense, together with socio-economic development, for about five years. Mr. Trần Hữu Sang, Chairman of Phu Xuan commune’s People’s Committee informed that of one of activities praised by the district’s authorities is the implementation of the local army and defense task;  for many years, not only has Phu Xuan commune well achieved set targets in building the local militia and army recruitment but also created movements encouraging people to contribute to the national defense.   

Regarding military recruitment specifically, Mr. Phạm Hữu Nhã, Head of the commune’s Defense Board said there were 29 youth in Phu Xuan recruited in previous five years, including 3 Party members, and that this year’s recruitment target is only 5 youth, but 10 families have registered for their children to join the defense force.
