Vice Chairman of Vinh Long provincial People’s Committee Lê Quang Trung signed on May 25 a decision approving the design of a new crematorium construction for the deceased in Khmer ethnic community in the province.
The crematorium construction will be built within Can Thay Theravada Buddhist pagoda located in Tra On district’s Tan My commune with the total investment of 43 billion VND by the provincial Committee for Ethnic Affairs.
The construction has the total area of over 3,600m2 including a 750m2-area crematorium hall, a 87.84m2-area technical station, and auxiliary facilities.
As planned, the construction is to be completed in late 2022.

Cremation is a funeral custom of the Khmer people. Nowadays, cremation is increasingly relevant as it does not affect productive land or pollute the environment, and is more economical.
Earlier, in 2010, Vinh Long province built five crematoriums within five Theravada Buddhist pagodas located in the province’s Binh Minh and Tra On districts.
