National Halal Certification Center established in Hanoi

04/26/2024

The National Halal Certification Center (HALCERT) under the Compliance Certification Center (QUACERT) of the Ministry of Science and Technology was launched on April 24 in Hanoi.

At the opening ceremony

Attending the launching event were representatives from the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Middle East - Africa Affairs Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) and concerning central ministries and agencies, and Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam Dato’ Tan Yang Thai.

As reported at the event, since 2017, the QUACERT has been assigned the task of researching and establishing a Halal certification organization in collaboration with the GCRA. However, Halal has been considered as a purely religious issue, leading to several difficulties in the process of establishing the center. Later, scientific conferences and forums on the issue have contributed to the transformation of social thinking, considering Halal as an economic sector, thereby leading to a more practical approach to this sector.

Representatives from central agencies at the event

The establishment of the HALCERT would promote state management in Halal certification sector and create favorable conditions to help Vietnamese businesses save costs for effectively entering the Halal global market.

The Halal certification by a national competent authority ensures that products meet Islamic laws and are manufactured according to standards established by national competent authorities. Therefore, HALCERT would play an important role in verifying the production and supply of products in compliance with Islamic laws.
