Nam Dinh province holds a ceremony to inaugurate a great Sakyamuni Buddha statue

On August 31st 2014, at the Centre of the Nam Dinh province’s Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) a ceremony was held to inaugurate the Sakyamuni Buddha statue and a functioning hall of Truc Lam Thien Truong.

Attending the ceremony were Mr. Nguyễn Thiện Nhân, member of the Politburo, Chairman of the Central Committee Vietnam Fatherland Front; General Trần Đại Quang, Minister of Public Security and leaders from local authorities.

On the side of the VBS, representatives from the Central and the provincial VBS and a large number of Buddhist followers and people attended the ceremony

The Sakyamuni Buddha statue is 20,28 m high from the ground and considered as the greatest Buddha statue in Southeast Asia. The copper statue was completed and regarded as a meaningful work to make a hallmark for city of Nam Dinh. The Buddha statue was located in the center of the courtyard in front of a functioning hall of Truc Lam Thien Truong.

The Sakyamuni Buddha statue was made of copper with 14,8m high, 150 tons in weight and costs about 80 billion VND.
