The Vietnam National Assembly’s Committee for External Affairs held on October 11 a conference on the Draft Law on belief and religion, focussing on its foreign-related contents
The event was co-chaired by Deputy Chairman of the NA Committee Nguyễn Sĩ Cương and Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Nguyễn Trọng Thừa, and attended by representatives of concerning ministries, central agencies and several religious organizations.
GCRA’s Executive Vice Chairman Bùi Thanh Hà presents a report on draft law.
During the conference, Executive Vice Chairman of Vietnam Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Bùi Thanh Hà made a presentation on contents of the draft law with foreign elements involved, including the interpretation of the term ‘religious activity with foreign element involved’ and provisions for the religious right and activities of foreigners in Vietnam, religious activities of Vietnamese individuals and organizations in foreign countries.
The conference recorded eight comments from state officials and religious representatives. These comments to the draft law highly appreciated the positive change in the draft regarding the people’s right to freedom of religion, as well as gave specific opinions to contents on the stipulated time for state recognition of religious organizations, religious activities and ordainment of foreigners in Vietnam, building of religious worshipping facilities, etc.
