On September 19, the Centre for Research and Preservation of Vietnamese Culture and Belief in collaboration with Vietnamese Folklorists Association held a ceremony to honor mediums of the Mother Goddess worship.
Attending the ceremony included Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Dương Ngọc Tấn, Director of Vietnamese Folklorists Association Tô Ngọc Thanh, Director of the Centre for Research and Preservation of Vietnamese Culture and Belief Ngô Đức Thịnh, representatives from central and local authorities and mediums from the cities and provinces of Hanoi, Nam Dinh, Lang Son, Da Nang…
The five honored mediums are all members of the Mother Goddess Worshipping Club, including, guardian of An Tho temple Nguyễn Văn Tiến (Hanoi), guardian of Quang Cung temple Trần Thị Vân (Nam Dinh province), medium of Phuc Quang shrine Phạm Thị Đoan Trang, guardian of Tan La Vong Tu temple Nguyễn Thị Kim Loan (Hanoi).
Titles of honor presented to mediums included the “Folk Artisan” title and the “For the sake of Vietnamese folk arts” insignia.
The “Folk Artisan” title is a noble recognition by Vietnamese Folklorists Association for those who have made important contributions to conserving and upholding the country’s intangible cultural values. The association has presented this title to 600 artists nationwide since 2001.
