Da Nang city’s People Committee issued on June 6 an official document for the recognition of Linh Ung pagoda in Son Tra peninsula as a city’s tourist site.
Linh Ung Pagoda is located in an area locally known as Bai But or Buddha’s Sanctuary on Son Tra peninsula. It will take about 10km from the city’s centre to the pagoda.
The pagoda’s construction was started in 2004 on an area of about 20 hectares and completed in 2010. The most prominent part of the pagoda complex is the highest statue of the Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara (or Buddha Avalokitesvara) in Vietnam, measuring 67 metres in height and 35 metres in diameter at its base. Inside the statue, 21 small Buddha sculptures are arranged across 17 floors.
Linh Ung Pagoda has become the key tourist area in Da Nang city for recent years. The pagoda welcomed nearly 2 million tourists to visit in 2016, and the visitors to this Buddhist place are expected to increase in the coming years.
According to the city’s Decision No. 3023/QĐ-UBND, the abbot of Linh Ung Pagoda and concerning authorities in the city have been assigned specific tasks with the aim to ensure the protection and development of the tourist site, such as restoring and upgrading the tourist site, maintaining the environmental hygiene, creating favorable conditions and safety for tourists, preservation of the natural landscape, ensuring social order, and actively taking measures for the prevention of forest fires, etc.
