Lai Chau province: speeding up the establishment of the Executive Board of the provincial Vietnam Buddhist Sangha

On August from 19th to 21st, 2014 a delegation of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) led by Most Venerable Thich Thanh Nhiễu, Standing Vice President of the Executive Council of the VBS had a working meeting in Lai Chau to speed up the establishment of the provincial VBS Executive Board.

Mr. Vương Văn Thành, Vice-Chairman of Lai Chau province People’s Committee and agencies, departments of the locality welcomed the delegation.

 At the reception, Venerable Thích Đức Thiện briefed about the structure and operation of the VBS, the purpose and significance of the establishment of the provincial VBS Executive Board and asked the Party Committee and People’s Committee of Lai Chau province for support towards the establishment of the Lai Chau province’s VBS to serve the religious and spiritual needs of Buddhist followers in  Lai Chau province.

Mr. Vương Văn Thành informed the guests about general social – economic situation and religious life of ethnic communities of Lai Chau province and highlighted the VBS’s assistance to ethnic communities in Lai Chau province through many charity activities by Buddhist monks, nuns and followers in over the past years.

On behalf of the VBS, Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu expressed his thanks to leaders of Lai Chau province and stated that the VBS’s efforts for the establishment of the Executive Board in Lai Chau province the last locality of 63 provinces and cities in Vietnam to have its member organization aimed to implement the VBS's motto: Dharma - Nation – Socialism” and comply with guidelines of the Party and State on religion in order for Buddhist activities of Buddhist monks and nuns, and followers in Lai Chau to be conducted according to the law, and contributing to stabilize the security situation in the locality.

On this occasion, the Central VBS’s delegation also visited the provincial Executive Board of Lao Cai and Yen Bai province to encourage Buddhist monks, nuns and followers on the occasion of Summer Retreat.
