Khmer monks in Go Quao district make proactive contribution to local development

Go Quao district in Kien Giang province currently has 10,441 Khmer households, accounting for 31.29 percent of the population in the district. Most of them follow Theravada Buddhism with 14 worshipping pagodas.

As reported, prestigious monks in Kien Giang province’s Go Quao district has raised tens of billions VND for supporting construction of charitable houses, clinics and other community facilities in the locality, such as local bridges and roads, and providing social welfares to the lonely elderly and disadvantaged children, etc.

Amongst these Khmer Buddhist dignitaries Most Venerable Abbot of Thanh Da pagoda Trần Nhiếp, Most Venerable Abbot of Ca Nhung pagoda Danh Đổng, Senior Venerable Abbot of Thnol Chum pagoda Lý Long Công Danh are leading examples.

From the establishment of the sponsoring center for poor patients in Dinh Hoa commune, Most Venerable Trần Nhiếp, who services as head of the sponsoring center, has raised a fund worth tens of billions VND for building 200 concreted bridges, 40 charitable houses, 10 kilometer of concreted road and drilling over 30 wells for disadvantaged people in districts of Go Quao, Vinh Thuan, An Bien and U Minh Thuong.

Senior Venerable Lý Long Công Danh has supported the building of 73 concreted bridges and each bridge cost from 40 million to 100 million VND. He also contributed his effort in providing free Khmer language teaching with seven or eight classes each summer for over 200 students from 1st grade to 7th grade.

As shared by Senior Venerable Lý Long Công Danh, the success of social charity works requires the voluntariness and responsibility as well as promotion of public interests.
