Hue city: Meeting with religious dignitaries held to gather comments on environmental protection, climate change adaptation

Vice Chairman of the Central Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee Lê Bá Trình and Director Eivind Archer from the Nordic Assistance to Vietnam (NAV) held a working meeting with Thua Thien Hue provincial Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Committee and Hue Archdiocese on September 11 at Hue city.

The meeting aimed to gather comments on the draft outline of the program “Coordination between the Central VFF Committee’s Standing Committee, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment with religions on environmental protection and climate change adaptation” in 2015-2020 period.

At the meeting, participating dignitaries reassessed the currently situation of pollution, environmental degradation and climate change in the globe, of which Vietnam would be one of five countries most affected by the climate change.

Therefore, the religious dignitaries unanimously agreed with the program “Coordination between the Central VFF Committee’s Standing Committee, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment with religions on environmental protection and climate change adaptation” in the period 2015-2020 in order to contribute to protect the planet.

A conference on “Promoting role of religions in protecting environment and responding to climate change” is expected to be held in Hue city in November this year. So, Vice Chairman Lê Bá Trình also suggested religious dignitaries to make further research and give feedbacks on this draft.
