The Hoa Hao Buddhist Church convened its fifth national congress for the 2019-2024 tenure on June 4-5 at An Hoa pagoda located in Phu Tan district, the southern province of An Giang.
The congress saw 831 delegates representing Hoa Hao Buddhist followers nationwide.
Distinguished guests at the event included Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Bùi Thanh Hà, and representatives of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the provincial government of An Giang.

The congress reviewed results of religious and social affairs of the Hoa Hao Buddhist sangha in the 2014-2019 term, approved key works for the next five years (2019-2024), and adopted the church’s revised charter.
The two-day event also selected 28 members to the Central Executive Committee of Hoa Hao Buddhist Sangha for the 2019-2024 tenure, with Rev. Nguyễn Tấn Đạt reselected as the committee’s chairman.

Speaking at the congress, Dr. Bùi Thanh Hà, Vice Chairman of the government religious committee spoke highly of achievements made by Hoa Hao Buddhism in the last five years, and stated the Hoa Hao Buddhist church has actively upheld fundamental teachings of the Buddhist sect and proactively promoted fine traditions and values in the country.

The Vice Chairman also extended congratulations to 28 delegates elected to the church’s executive committee in the new term and called on them and all followers of Hoa Hao Buddhism to together strive for more successes under the motto “For Dharma – For Nation”, make practical contributions for social unity and prosperity in the country.

Speaking at the national conference, Rev. Nguyễn Tấn Đạt, Chairman of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Church’s Central Executive Committee took the chance to thank Hoa Hao Buddhists and state authorities for their support extended to the church’s executive committee, and pledged to work together for a successful implementation of the church’s working program approved for the 5th term (2019-2024).
