Hoa Binh province: Provincial VBS holds year-end conference on Buddhist Affairs

Hoa Binh provincial Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Execuive Committee reviewed its annual performance and set forth a plan of activities for 2015 at a conference held on Jan. 16 in Phat Quang pagoda.

Attending the conference were Most Venerable Thích Thanh Hưng, Vice Chairman of the central VBS Committee for Buddhists’ Guidance; Venerable Thích Đức Nguyên, Member of the central VBS Executive Council, Chairman of the provincial VBS Executive Committee; Venerable Thích Thanh Tạo and Venerable Thích Trí Thịnh, Vice Chairmen of the provincial VBS Executive Committee; and a large number of Buddhists in the locality.

Guests at the year-end event included Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Thế Dũng, Deputy Director of provincial Home Affairs Department Nguyễn Văn Tỵ, Chairwoman of the provincial Ethnic and Religious Committee Bùi Thị Điển; and representatives of relevant provincial agencies.

According to the conference report, in the year 2014, the first year in its very first term, Hoa Binh provincial VBS Executive Committee implemented many important Buddhist and social activities, including ceremonies for new converts, organization of Vesak Day 2558 B.E., prayers for spiritual uplifting, prosperity and peace, provision of spiritual and material supports to the poor… The committee has also practically engaged in persuading local Buddhists to avoid superstitious activities.

As announced by Venberable Thích Thanh Tạo, 12 new members of Hoa Binh provincial VBS Executive Committee were appointed as an effort to consolidate and strengthen the committee’s personnel in meeting religious practices and development in the locality.

On this occasion, Chairman Nguyễn Thế Dũng presented a certificate of the provincial People’s Committee to outstanding individuals and groups for their excellent achievements in Buddhist Affairs 2014.
