The Ho Chi Minh City authorities held a ceremony on January 21 to offer the traditional banh Tet (round glutinous rice cake) to Hung Kings, the legendary founders of the nation, at Thuong (Upper) Temple at the National Historical and Cultural Park.

The event was attended by Politburo member and Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Nguyễn Thiện Nhân, as well as representatives from the municipal Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee. The ceremony takes place every year ahead of the lunar New Year (Tet) to pay tribute to the national founders, forming patriotism and inspiring solidarity among the city’s residents, particularly the younger generation. The delegation then paid their respects while offering incense to Nguyen Huu Canh (1650-1700), who established territorial sovereignty for Vietnam in the south in 1698, especially in the Sai Gon - Gia Dịnh region (now Ho Chi Minh City). A range of activities are expected to take place at the National Historical and Cultural Park to welcome the Lunar New Year, such as a photo display, a calligraphy exhibition, a tea ceremony, a traditional cake making contest, arts performances, and traditional dragon dances. |
