On Sptember 3, 2014, implementing a resolution of the Executive Council of the Central Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) and the program of Buddhist activities 2014 of VBS Committee for Propagation and Buddhists Guidance in Hai Phong City, more than 700 Buddhists came to the Cultural Center of Hai Phong City’s Le Chan district for the religious dogmas contest in Hai Phong city.
Buddhist dignitaries attending the dogmas contest included Most Venerable Thích Quảng Tùng, Vice Chairman of the VBS Executive Council cum Chairman of the Hai Phong City VBS Executive Committee; Venerable Thích Thanh Giác, Vice Chairman of the Propagation Committee of the Central VBS cum Vice Chairman of Hai Phong VBS Executive Committee, Chief of the organizing committee of the religious dogmas contest; and large numbers of Buddhist representatives from Hai Phong Citys districts, with Venerable Thích Chân Thường and Venerable Thích Giới Định, Members of the Executive Committee of Hai Phong VBS as moderators during the contest.
700 Buddhists attending the City final competition were those achieving excellent results in dogmas contests held in districts earlier.
Local guests at the dogmas contest included Mr. Lê Văn Nhã, Chairman of Hai Phong City Committee for Religious Affairs and representatives from Hai Phong Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Hai Phong Public Security…
There are 14 Buddhist groups competing during the contest, and the competition contents consists of a written answer to about 20 theorist questions to be completed in 20 minutes, and an oral and practical presentation divided into two rounds with the second round competed by four groups being selected during the first round.
The second final round witnessed the competition amongst four groups from districts of Ngo Quyen, Hai An, Kien Thuy an An Lao, with Buddhists from each of the four groups engaged in a presentation and talent contest. This is a new, most expected and exited content during the contest.
The result of the final contest was announced at the closing ceremony by the organizing committee, with the special award granted to the Buddhist man and woman from Kien Thuy district, the first, second and third prizes go to districts of Ngo Quyen, Hai An and An Lao respectively.
