Go Thap archaeological site proposed for recognition as cultural heritage of humanity

Dong Thap provincial People’s Committee has sent a document to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism proposing Go Thap archaeological site in Dong Thap province to be recognized as a cultural heritage of the world.

Go Thap archaeological site recognized as a special national relic in 2012 is considered as a long-standing belief and religious center and the regional capital of the ancient Funan kingdom used to exist in Vietnam South.

Since 1975, this relic has received special attention from Vietnamese archaeologists and undergone many explorations and excavations. A number of artifacts relating the residential, burial and architectural relics of the Oc Eo Culture have been found at the site.
