Eighth Congress of Catholics for national construction & defense in Kien Giang convened

The Committee for Solidarity of Catholics in Kien Giang province held the 8th congress of the Catholics for national construction and defense for 2022-2027 tenure on August 12.

Delegates at the congress

The event saw the presence of Priest Louis Gonzaga Huỳnh Phước Lâm, Vicar General of Long Xuyen diocese, Priest Vice President of the Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics Joseph Phan Đình Sơn and 149 delegates representing the Catholic community in the province.

Local guests at the event included Vice Chairman of the provincial Party’s Committee Commission for Mass Mobilization Nguyễn Thanh Long, Vice Chairman of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Phạm Thanh Hùng, Chairman of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs Lê Văn Núi and Chairman of the People’s Committee in Tan Hiep district Trần Minh Thể.

The congress selected 61 members to the Catholic Solidarity Committee in the province for the 2022 – 2027 tenure with Priest Vincent Paul Phạm Thế Hòa selected as Head of the Committee.

New Catholic Solidarity Committee in the province for 2022-2027 tenure makes its debut

As reported, over the past five years, Catholic communities in the province have contributed over 110 billion VND to social charities in the fields of education, health and the Covid-19 prevention work, and over 15 billion VND for building hundreds of houses, bridges and rural roads in the locality.

On the occasion, the Central Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics presented certificates of merit to one group and one individual of the provincial Catholic Solidarity Committee for their outstanding contributions in 2017-2022 tenure. Local authorities also awarded certificates of commendation to 12 local Catholic groups and 24 individuals for their contributions in local movements during the 2017-2022 tenure.
