District-level VBS congress held in An Giang & Tien Giang

The 10th congress of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s chapter in My Tho city of Tien Giang province was successfully convened on December 1 in Kim Lien pagoda, My Tho city.  

The event saw the presence of Most Venerable Thích Huệ Minh, Member of the VBS Central Executive Council cum Chairman of the provincial VBS Executive Committee Thích Huệ Minh; Senior Venerable Thích Quảng Lộc, Chairman of the city VBS Executive Board; and representatives of monks, nuns and lay followers in the city.

Distinguished guests at the event included Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Văn Vĩnh and Chairwoman of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs Bùi Thị Mai.

As reported at the event, My Tho city has currently 343 monks and nuns with 55 Buddhist monasteries. In the previous term, Buddhist monks, nuns and lay followers in My Tho city have spent over 65 billion VND on social, charitable programs for providing free meals to poor patients, presenting wheelchairs to disabled people, offering free medical examination and cataract surgery, building charity houses, donating masks, antiseptic, oxygen ventilators for the prevention of Covid-19 disease, etc.

The event elected 27 members to the VBS executive board in My Tho city for 2021-2026 tenure, with Senior Venerable Thích Quảng Lộc reelected as head of the Buddhist executive board’s provincial congress and selected 15 members to attend the VBS Chapter in the province.

On the occasion, local authorities also presented certificates of commemoration to 15 Buddhist groups and 10 individuals for their outstanding contributions in religious affairs and social, charitable activities.

*Earlier, the VBS’s Executive Committee in Cho Moi district of An Giang province has successfully held its 7th congress for the 2021-2026 period.

During the event, the 11-member executive board of the VBS chapter in the district for the 2021-2026 tenure headed by Venerable Thích Vạn Đức was elected made its debut.

The VBS Executive board in Cho Moi district makes its debut

According to the event’s report, the VBS chapter in Cho Moi district has contributed over 11 billion VND to the social charity work in the locality during the 2016-2021 tenure.

On the occasion, the Buddhist groups and individuals of the district VBS chapter were honored by the VBS’s chapter in the province for their practical contributions to Buddhist affairs in the 2016-2021 tenure.

* The VBS Chapter in Tri Ton district has also announced the new VBS executive board for the 2021-2026 tenure at its 7th congress for 2021-2026 term.

The new VBS executive board for the 2021-2026 tenure consists of 25 members with Most Venerable Chau Son Sy reelected as head of the Buddhist executive board.

During the event, the district VBS presented 20 million to the People’s Committee in Luong Phi commune for supporting the Covid-19 prevention work.
