Deputy Prime Minister Vũ Đức Đam extends Vesak greetings to VBS’s Patriarch

On May 18, Deputy Prime Minister Vũ Đức Đam led a delegation to visit Most Venerable Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Thích Phổ Tuệ, on occasion of the Buddha’s Birthday Festival 2016 (B.E. 2560).

Joining the delegation were representatives of the Government’s Office, the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, the Central Party Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilization, and several dignitaries from the VBS’s Central Northern Office.

During the visiting reception at Vien Minh Pagoda in Ha Noi city’s Phu Xuyen district, the Deputy Prime Minister extended best wishes to the Patriarch, Buddhist dignitaries, monks, nuns and followers on the occasion of the Vesak 2016. He also expressed his hope that the Patriarch would continue encouraging Buddhists to practice the religion in accordance with the VBS’s charter and the State law, as well as actively participate in patriotic emulation movements, contributing to the socio-economic development in the country.

In speaking to the guests, Most Venerable Patriarch Thích Phổ Tuệ expressed thanks to the Deputy Prime Minister for his visit, and stated that the VBS is always committed to closely work with the authorities and unite with people in the whole country for building a peaceful and prosperous of country of Vietnam.
