The annual conference to review the coordinating program for environmental protection and climate change response 2016 took place on May 25 in Ho Chi Minh City.
The event was organized by the steering committee of coordinating program, co-signed by the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and religious organizations in the country in December, 2015.
Attending the conference included Vice Chairman of the VFF Central Committee Lê Bá Trình, representatives of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, the Norwegian Church Aid (NAV/NCA), and heads of the VFF Committee and dignitaries representing religious organizations in Southern provinces.
The conference heard reports on the implementation of pilot models and information on environmental degradation and climate change, including the recent marine environmental incident caused by Hung Nghiep Formosa Ltd Company in the central region, as well as discussed results of coordinating activities 2016 and working plans for 2017.
As reported at the event, during the previous working year, each religion has implemented and incorporated activities for environmental protection and climate change response into its annual working program. The religious organizations in most provinces and cities have also signed the coordinating agreement on environmental protection and climate change adaptation with the VFF Committee and Department of Natural Resources and Environment in localities.
According to Vice Chairman Lê Bá Trình, the VFF Committee and the religious organizations will participate in the supervision of the implementation of the coordinating program for environmental protection and climate change adaptation for ensuring its working effectiveness.
Speaking at the event, Director of the Norwegian Church Aid Eidvin Archer spoke highly of results of the coordinating program in 2016 and pledged to continue supporting Vietnam in training and engaging religions to carry out the common task of protecting our planet.
