Contributions to rural development by Hoa Hao Buddhists in Trung Hung

Trung Hung commune in Can Tho city currently has 95 percent of residents following Hoa Hao Buddhism.

Over the past years, Hoa Hao Buddhist followers in the commune have proactively contributed funds and manpower for building local bridges, rural roads and reducing poverty in the locality.

As reported by the Hoa Hao Buddhist’s executive committee in Trung Hung commune, Buddhist followers in the commune contributed from one VND billion to two VND billion for building local transport system in the locality each year.

In particular to the bridges, Buddhist followers have contributed 1.235 VND billion out of 1.735 VND billion for building and completing a Trung Hung Bridge.

Ambulance for providing free transportation of poor patients

According to Head of the communal Red Cross Society cum Chairman of the Hoa Hao Buddhist’s Executive Board in Trung Hung commune Đỗ Văn Quãng, the Hoa Hao Buddhist board in the community has raised fund for building from 40 to 50 charitable houses for poor families and presenting tens of million VND to disadvantaged families, including Agent Orange victims.

In addition, Trung Hung commune currently operates four ambulances for providing free transportation of poor patients with all 20 drivers following Hoa Hao Buddhism and registered as blood organ donors.
