On Sept. 14, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Executive Council held a ground-breaking ceremony for construction of the Vietnam Buddhist Academy’s new facility in Ngu Tay hamlet, An Tay ward, Hue city of central Thua Thien-Hue province.
Covering 4.95 hectares, the academy’s central facility will be built with an estimated cost of 470 billion VND (21 million USD), of which 200 billion VND is contributed by Vingroup and the remaining comes from the Buddist Sangha of Vietnam in Hue and donations from domestic and foreign donors.
The academy’s main components include a cultural centre, an educational and training centre, an executive centre, an information technology-library centre, lecture halls, a meeting hall and accommodations for students.
Upon completion, the school will offer undergraduate and tertiary programs and is expected to become the Buddhist training centre for the central and Central Highlands regions.
On the same day, Lieu Quan Buddhist Cultural Centre in Hue city held a seminar with the theme “Buddhist woodblocks heritage in Hue city”. The seminar aimed to preserve and promote the values of this precious documentation system. Buddhist woodblocks are not only a cultural-spiritual heritage but also valuable documents forming, integral parts of Hue and Vietnam’s culture.
