Congregation of Lovers of Holy Cross in Hue celebrates 300th anniversary

Archbishop of Hue diocese Joseph Nguyễn Chí Linh presided over a solemn ceremony on March 21 to mark the 300th anniversary of the Lovers of the Holy Cross congregation in Hue.  

During the ceremony, the Archbishop Jospeh Nguyễn Chí Linh called on people to pay tribute predecessors who contributed to the founding and development of the congregation

On the occasion, the archbishop announced the opening of the congregation’s Holy Year and Sister Head of the Congregation Teresa Trần Thị Tùy took the chance to thank Pope Francis for his blessings and approval of the Holy Year for the Congregation.

Congregation of Holy Cross was first established by Bishop Lambert De La Motte in Nam Dinh province’s Kien Lao district in 1670, Quang Ngai province’s An Chi in 1671. Then, many monasteries of the Lovers of Holy Cross congregation were founded in Vietnam. The Lovers of Holy Cross congregation in Hue was established by Priest Pierre De Sennemand in 1719. Currently, the congregation has 447 sisters serving 67 branches in dioceses of Hue, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh city, and overseas.
