The Committee on Charitable and Social Action – Caritas Vietnam held its 2014 annual conference in Northern province of Nam Dinh on November 25-27.
This year conference with the theme “Caritas: A Family of Love and service” took place at Bui Chu Cathedral in Xuan Ngoc commune, Xuan Truong district.
The three days conference was chaired by Bishop Thomas Vũ Đình Hiệu of Bui Chu diocese, Chairman of Caritas Vietnam, and attended by Bishop Joseph Nguyễn Văn Yến - Vice Chairman of Caritas Vietnam North, Bishop Joseph Trần Văn Toản - Vice Chairman of Caritas Vietnam South, Priest Vincent Vũ Ngọc Đồng - Director of Caritas Vietnam Office, Caritas of 26 dioceses, clergymen, clergywomen and followers.
State guests to the conference 2014 included Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Dương Ngọc Tấn, Vice Chairman of Nam Dinh provincial Committee for Religious Affairs Đinh Minh Hoan, Chairman of Xuan Truong district People’s Committee Đặng Ngọc Cường.
This is the first time the annual event of Caritas Vietnam hosted in Northern Vietnam. This year’s event aimed to review activities of Caritas Vietnam and Caritas in 26 dioceses in the previous year and map out program of activities for 2015. It also discussed the setting up of a Caritas networking for mutual support and assistance.
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Dương Ngọc Tấn praised efforts of Vietnam Catholics in socio-economic development, building and defense of the Fatherland. He expressed his hope that Caritas Vietnam will make further practical contributions in charity in line with guidelines of the Vietnam Catholic Church and policies and laws of the State./.
